Sacred Heart Parish is gifted with many generous people, involved in a variety of ministries.
The following is an alphabetical listing of those ministries. If you are interested in sharing
your time and talents in any of these ministries, please contact the parish offices.
Ministries in Alphabetical Order: (each ministry is linked to its description further down the page)
The role of the Altar Server is integral to the normal celebration of the Mass. Altar Servers
assist the priest by carrying the processional cross, holding the book for the priest, preparing
the altar for the gifts, washing the hands of the priest, etc. Boys and girls in the sixth grade
through high school serve weekend masses. Fifth through eighth grade Sacred Heart School students
serve at the weekly all school masses. Training is available to the Sacred Heart School and Religious
Education Students each year. Weekend servers are scheduled with the other liturgical ministers.

Through our Baptism, each of us is called to minister to others. Sharing communion in the church or to the sick is a very important
ministry. You are Christ to those you serve and you offer them Christ.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion receive special training and are commissioned by the Bishop for three years. They
help the Priest distribute Communion to the congregation during the Liturgies and are scheduled for the weekend Liturgies throughout
the year. They also serve on Holy Days of Obligation and weekdays. Some Communion Ministers take Holy Communion to the sick, homebound
and nursing home residents on behalf of the Sacred Heart Parish family.

The Eucharistic Liturgy is the source and summit of our life in Christ. The purpose of a Liturgy Committee is to work with the
Pastor, Liturgy Director and Music Director to design and plan parish Masses and other worship services. The planning includes
decorating the church for the seasons of the Church year. Anyone who has the desire to learn more about the liturgy and to help
plan for the Church seasons is invited to become a member of this committee. For more information and to join this committee,
please contact Sr. Rose Hacker at the parish office, 432-1971. The goal is to involve as many parishioners as possible in meaningful

PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY
Care and the love of knitting (and crochet) have been combined into a prayerful ministry that reaches out to those in need of
comfort and solace. The knitter begins each shawl with prayers for the recipient. Intentions are continued throughout the creation
of the shawl. When the shawl is completed it is offered a final ritual before being sent along its way. Work in a group setting or
work alone. The shawls are made by hand from bulky, soft yarn. The patterns are easy and the prayers ecumenical. If you are
interested in participating in this ministry, contact the Parish Office.

The Sacred Heart Religious Education program is offered to all students in grades K-12 who do not attend a parochial school.
They are instructed in basic Catholic doctrine and belief, prepared in the sacraments of the Church, and taught traditional prayers
and selected scripture passages. Through planned instruction, music and activities, the students learn to see the Christian Community
as a sign of God's loving care for them and as a sign of the presence of Jesus among us. They learn to show their own concerns for
others through acts of love, peace and justice.
Classes are held at Sacred Heart School for all Grades K-8, every Wednesday evening from 6:45-8:00 p.m. during the school year.
Grades 9-11 meet twice a month on Sunday mornings from 9-11 a.m. during the school year to prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Email Darwin Messerly or call 432-1971 for more information.
Parish Festivals are parish-wide events for all ages, utilizing the events of Church life. They are intended to bring the members
of Sacred Heart Parish together for a faith experience with materials that they can then use at home and in school. We believe that
we continue to grow in our relationship with God throughout our life. These festivals are designed to nourish that growth through
experiences that will help us to learn about and then celebrate more fully the various aspects of our Catholic faith. The festivals
follow a theme, such as, the sacraments, the seasons in the Church year, the Saints, justice and peace, etc. We begin with a shared
meal, then open with prayer and introduction to the theme, followed by age-appropriate activities related to the theme, and then come
back together to share what we have learned, receive the take-home packets, and close with prayer.
